PgUp Performances Saturday 30 June - Part 3

This is the last of the three mega-posts about the second PgUp performance in Virtual Haidplatz on 30 June, although by no means the last of the documentation to come. Further down are posts about Douglas Story's Chambers and Landscapes, and Wirxli Flimflam and Fwwixli Swindlehurst's Ageplay Performance Residue #1 which both took place earlier in the day, as well as the performances from Avatar Orchestra Metaverse and Fau Ferdinand which took place on Thursday 28 June
This post will cover Avatar Orchestra Metaverse's grand finale for PgUp which included two premiers - SLippery SLope by Wirxli Flimflam and FRAGULA v0.1 by Miulew Takahe.
Wirxli has once more beaten me to it with his blog, where you can see a video of SLippery SLope made by DannyDarko Raymaker with sound recorded by Miulew Takahe. Also on Wirxli's blog you can get a rare insight into the workings of AOM as he has posted the full score of the piece ... fascinating stuff! It demonstrates well how much detailed planning and coordination goes into AOM's work. I was also pleased to see from reading the score that by wearing my blue dress I may have played a part in the musical composition.
While the orchestra tuned up and precached in the square, we were treated to a short RL performance in Notice Gallery as performance artists Katrina Anderson (right) and Lisa Weger drew the raffle in an extravagant fashion.

I was back online within seconds and because SLippery SLope is a long piece to perform, I had time to take loads of pictures ...

It is interesting to plot the development of AOM's instruments over time - each piece seems to become more visually striking than the last, from FADHEIT's invisible huds, through the understated instruments used for Vicky's Remix and Rue Blanche, then the wonderfully intricate Onomatophone until finally we have a visual feast with SLippery SLopes and these outlandishly huge animated attachments - what will they think of next?

Phew, what a fantastic couple of days! As I packed up my kit and said my thankyous to Notice Gallery, I began to really look forward to a pint, especially as it was the last day we'd be allowed to smoke in UK pubs ...

PgUp Performances Saturday 30 June - Part 2

So, my last post was about Douglas Story's "Chambers and Landscapes", the next post will be about Avatar Orchestra Metaverse's performance, but today, I will cover Wirxli Flimflam and Fwwixli Swindlehurst's "Ageplay Performance Residue #1"

Wirxli Flimflam, of avatar performance art group Second Front is the sl foster father of iritating brat Fwwixli Swindlehurst. You can read all about their familial ups and downs on their blog. Today, in Fwwixli's first ever performance with her daddy, she will build in public following Wirxli's guidance.

As we arrive in Dethomas Dibou's workspace above Virtual Haidplatz, which he has kindly made into a beautiful white space for Wirxli and Fwixli's performance, the topic of conversation still seems to be drugs ...

Well, I must say I thought that Fwwixli did tremendously well with her first public build, (especially considering how many drugs she had just consumed) and that Wirxli showed excellent parenting skills. I can see that Fwwix is going to become a very talented builder and performance artist, just like her daddy ;-)

After Ageplay Performance Residue #1, we head back down to Virtual Haidplatz using the slightly dodgy teleporter (my bad build, this one).
In Notice Gallery, real life performance artist Katrina Anderson draws the fundraising raffle, and we are treated to another excellent performance by Avatar Orchestra Metaverse, but that is all for the next blog post.

PgUp Performances Saturday 30 June - Part 1

This is such a mega blog post that I am going to split it into three parts to do it justice. Today, I will cover Douglas Story's beautiful installation, Chambers and Landscapes. Still to come, coverage of Wirxli Flimflam and Fwwixli Swindlehurst's amazing performance, Ageplay Performance Residue #1, and another brilliant concert by Avatar Orchestra Metaverse.

After a slow start, Saturday's PgUp event went well in SL and rl. It took a while for people to turn up in both venues - in London, we had terrible weather and travel chaos caused by the Pride festival to contend with, and in Second Life, it took a while for everybody to wake up. For the Americans and Canadians, it was, to be fair, extremely early in the morning, and many of the Europeans had attended Angrybeth Shortbread's remix of Brian Eno's 77 Million Paintings at what was for them 3 or 4 in the morning. While waiting for things to get going, I hung around Virtual Haidplatz and took virtual drugs with Fwwixli and Miulew ...
